Short Courses

These courses can be anything from a ‘taster’ course to a more in-depth course. You tell us your needs and we will devise a course for you and your company or organisation. On the course you can expect to learn about basic aspects of the Deaf community and Deaf culture, plus the fundamentals of ISL.

Beginners ISL Course

• Creating an awareness of Deaf Culture and present a positive view of Deaf people as a linguistic minority group.

Intermediate ISL Course

A more in-depth understanding of the conventions, norms, and social behaviours of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.

• Building on knowledge of Deaf Culture and the Deaf community
• Building on basic survival phrases with a more in-depth conversational proficiency
• Build on real life interactions being able to handle more complex everyday scenarios. Express and support personal opinions
• Building on the understanding of live interactions and ISL vlogs

Advanced ISL Course

• Develop advanced conversational fluency and communicate naturally and confidently in ISL.
• Develop a deeper understanding and use of complex ISL grammar, classifiers, facial expressions and non-manual features.
• Participate effectively in extended conversations, discussions and real-life social interactions.
• Improve receptive skills by understanding different signing styles, speeds and regional variations.
• Express and support detailed opinions, ideas and personal experiences using clear and appropriate ISL.
• Develop presentation and storytelling skills for community, educational and workplace settings.
